On Tuesday 16th January Duffields South West held a Beef and Sheep meeting at Sedgemoor Auction Centre with over 70 farmers in attendance.
The meeting was brilliantly chaired by Alison Boydell, Duffields South West Director and the line-up of speakers included Tommy McGuckian from DSM presenting on ewe nutrition pre and post lambing and the importance of Vitamin E affecting lamb vigour and growth rates. Trial work undertaken by DSM regarding Crina was also discussed and the benefit that has on the ewes milk yield and subsequent improvement of lamb growth rates.
ABP Food Group then had two representatives speaking about the specification required for lambs and beef cattle for their plants throughout the UK. They then discussed ABP Gamechanger Beef integrated scheme linked with Sainsburys Taste the difference range and how this could work on farms across the Southwest.
Katherine Muirhead from Duffields concluded the evening with a beef and sheep technical presentation including the importance of silage analysis and feeding for maximum return. She went on to explain how Duffields can help with this and gave some insight into Duffields and the recent investment into the Yeovil mill.
The evening was enjoyed by all and some really interesting topics of conversation were discussed. Thank you to the speakers and to all those that supported the evening.
