Rob Hole – Duffields Flockcare Case Study
The Sherborne flock of Poll Dorsets was founded in 1965 by Richard Hole and now his son Rob lambs 350 Pedigree Poll Dorset ewes based near Sherborne in the heart of The Blackmore Vale, Dorset.
Rob has been breeding Poll Dorset’s for over 50 years and last year started feeding Duffields Flockcare Ewe Nuts and he is certain this has contributed to minimal mastitis, strong milk production, and healthy ewes and lambs. Duffields ewe range has high levels of Vitamin E inclusion and high levels of Selenium which has had a big role in lamb vigour and overall health.
Rob has had huge success in the show and sale ring including recently having picked up Champion Ewe 2024 at Worcester Sale and proudly winning the Dorset National Show and Overall Interbreed Champion at The Royal Bath & West Show 2023. This year in July the farm will see it’s 5th on-farm production sale which has gone from strength to strength.
Rob splits his flock into September or December lambing a swell as lambing 70 ewe lambs every year so in Rob’s own words ’nutrition pre-lambing needs to be spot on’. In the last 6 weeks of pregnancy 70% of lamb growth occurs so feeding a high energy, good quality and palatable diet is key to success at such a crucial stage of a lamb’s development.
